Some time ago, I and my roommates created SORPA: Southern Ontario Role Playing Association. We're based in Port Hope, Ontario, and have tried multiple avenues to garner more gamers in the area...well, the general area, anyway. We do have a Facebook Group, if it helps, and we've been through the realm of Reddit, and I'm going to post on Craigslist as well, but we've had really no luck in finding other gamers.
If there is -now- an interest out there, I'm hoping Kijiji is going to be a better machine for helping us net new players.
WHAT WE PLAY:
Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 Ed.
Oriental Adventures/Rokugan using D&D 3.5 rules
Star Wars Revised Core Rules(RCR)
Vampire the Masquerade(Old World of Darkness)
Werewolf the Apocalypse(Old World of Darkness)[Including Fera/Bete]
EXCEPTIONS:
I am really the only knowledgeable one in the house in regards to Hunter the Reckoning, and that's not saying much, I'm still mostly lost, but we do love that RPG concept.
Aaand we own nearly every Wraith the Oblivion book there is to own, but since it's a -really- dark-style game, and 2 players don't really make a proper troupe, we've never penciled up a game...and it'd still be a hard sell to one of us.
Changeling...it never was worth much to any of us, I'm the only one who ever experimented playing a Fae back in the day, and it's just not my, or my roommates, cup of tea.
Mage the Ascension.....yeah, ok, this is a near-impossible sell for me. I've been told I think like a Hermetic, and at one time I actually owned the Mage 3rd Ed. book...you know, I just can't really play a Mage properly, hence I can't run it properly.
And that's something else: I originated as a player, but being born under the Galliard moon has really affected me, as it were, and I am the troupe's ST/DM/GM. Not to say we wouldn't be open to a new one, for fun's sake, but I seem to fit the 'Mega Nerd' within the group well, so...yeah. LOL
We've all three been gaming for -years upon years-...perhaps longer than we'd care to admit. I started back in '97, my roommates a little longer than me.
And, truth is, many other gaming systems we've never had enough collective exposure to between us, we don't own any of the lesser/3rd party systems, so it'd be really difficult to learn a whole new system, but hey, you never know.
This is the Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/129662957108900/
Now, that all being said, 'gamers' also extend to other things besides Tabletopping. Yes, LARP runs strong with us, but in this community it's unheard of and impossible to collaborate. Port Hope is a retirement town, it's the exact middle stop between Kingston and Toronto, so LARP doesn't exist here, but we've all had extensive LARP experience, mostly Old World of Darkness but I was apart of the Vampire the Requiem and Mage LARP in Delray Beach, FL in the Sangre del Sol domain with the New World of Darkness. New WOD doesn't appeal to my roommates, and I lost interest in it, so we've got no use for it.
Magic the Gathering is another interest of ours, and we have quite a large stock of cards and decks here. Mostly old school cards/decks, but there's some new stuff sprinkled here and there.
Now, I know the location being the epicenter of -nowhere- is going to hurt us in the long run, but the problem is that traveling outside of Port Hope to chase games haven't worked for us in the past, and we've decided against it. We just can't, and considering work schedules for everyone involved, it's just best if we keep things local here. The physical location, endgame, would be my roommates townhouse here in Port Hope. Finished basement, large gaming table, computer-desk set up.
For now, communication with my roommates and I will get the ball rolling for a game faster than just showing up out of the blue. So, check us out on Facebook, SORPA, and if there's any questions just leave them here for me, I'm running the online seeking-posts on the sites I mentioned.
Hope to hear from y'all, and keep rolling CRIT's!!!
